This one's a little different. The client is my brother, and he's a video editor with a great tagline: Storytelling, from Real to Reel. He needed a site that could hold multiple different formats side by side - short, punchy reels, advertisements, and longer-form edited pieces, without any one holding more weight than the others.
Video-first, from the ground up. We start with an embedded video, as a sort of introduction, to showcase hard skills right off the bat. Followed by the portfolio, with a structure that allows for filtering between reels and long-form work so visitors can jump straight to whichever they want to see. Everything else, like the layout, the pacing, the way content loads, was all built to stay out of the video's way and let the work do the talking.
Being that this was more of a personal project (and, okay, a family favour), gave me a bit more room to experiment with pacing and visual rhythm than a typical client site would allow, which made this one especially fun to build.
The site's live at drewnewby.com, quietly doing exactly what it was built for — a quick reel and a full-length edit can sit side by side without either one getting shortchanged. It's also just a genuinely fun story to share, family favour turned into a live site! I'm proud to have my name on too. See for yourself drewnewby.com
Want to talk through the video-first layout decisions, or how reels and long-form got separated structurally? Happy to get into it!
